Spring Cleaning Guide: Part 4

Part Four: The Living Room

Man and Woman Playing Monopoly

Spring is in the air! The birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, the sunshine is beaming into your home.

Open the windows and breathe new air into your home with a good spring clean.

To motivate you to get started, we've created a four-part series to help you break down the process room-by-room.

The Living Room

The living room is often a gathering place for family and friends and can quickly build up clutter, dust and dirt. A good spring clean in this room is more than just your daily maintenance. Follow the steps below to achieve an intense clean up.

Declutter

It can be easy for small items and knickknacks to gather in this room, so take the time to put everything back in its original location.

Collectible Clutter

Your living room is the default place for collections to build up and gather dust. If items like DVDs, books and CDs are sitting on bookshelves being neglected, sort through them and determine what you want to keep and what can be thrown out.

Knickknacks

Sort through the ever-growing pile of knickknacks on shelves and coffee tables and get rid of anything that no longer 'sparks joy'.

Get Organised

Placing items on living room surfaces like TV cabinets, shelves and coffee tables can make your home look busy and disorganised. Instead, opt for smart storage options such as ottomans or baskets for smaller items, including kids' toys!

TV remotes or your Somfy remote will also look better when neatly arranged in a decorative tray - and they will be easier to find.

Clean

The amount of foot traffic in this room makes it prone to dust and dirt!

Refresh Furnishings

Thoroughly clean your couch with a vacuum and apply a fabric freshener to keep it smelling fresh. Wash any throws or decorative pillowcases and place pillows in sunlight to kill any bacteria. Depending on your window coverings, you can give these a wipe to have them looking new in no time!

Wipe Winter Away

Wipe down all surfaces and remove any dust that has built up. Take extra care to clean the back of your TV, which is often overlooked. Other surfaces include the TV cabinet, bookshelves, the coffee table and even your remotes!

A Deep Clean

It goes without saying, your carpet needs some extra attention. Take the chance to give it a deeper clean than usual, moving furniture if possible to get to those hard-to-reach or otherwise neglected spots.

Rejuvenate

After the cleaning is done, give your space new life with some much-needed updates and additions.

Update Decor

It's time to update your furnishings and decor to rejuvenate your home for spring. Something as simple as changing the colour scheme of your decor by updating pillows on the couch or even adding more flowers and greenery to your interior can do wonders for your home's mood.

Look to the Future

With the days getting longer, it's time to take advantage of the glorious spring sunshine. With Somfy-motorised window coverings you can set them on an automatic schedule to open during the day to let the sunshine in, and close before the sun goes down at night.

You can even control your window coverings with voice control, a sure-fire way to impress your guests at your next dinner party!

There is no better time to update your window coverings than spring. Contact Somfy to obtain a quote for motorised window coverings and voice control in your living room, or even prep your outdoor area for the warmer weather.
