De-clutter and Streamline Your Home

Clutter is a serious problem for many people, so we're taking a look at how you can de-clutter your home, room by room.

The first step is choosing which room to start with. Don't go all out and attempt to clean your whole home at once - you'll end up burnt out and stressed. We recommend taking it one room at a time. You'll have conquered your whole home before you know it!

The Bedroom

Bedroom clutter can almost certainly be translated to wardrobe clutter. Do you have a collection of clothes that looks like it was hit by a tornado? Many people do.

When going through your wardrobe, have three boxes ready: donating, throwing away, and keeping. Sort each item into one of those boxes. While you're doing so, remember: don't keep the clothes you never wear. If something has sweat stains or rips, throw it away. You can always buy a new shirt later if you really need it.

Once your items are organised into boxes, take a moment before refilling your wardrobe with the clothes that you choose to keep. Make sure that, this time, everything will be stored neatly and comfortably. Perhaps even reconsider your wardrobe storage system.

The Lounge Room

The next room is a big one: the lounge. Often, lounge clutter comes in the form of old furniture, too many decorations, or even the two mixed together!

The first step you should take is re-evaluating your storage options. Is the bookcase too small for all the books? Are the side tables overflowing? If yes, either that means selling some books or decorations or choosing to upgrade your furniture. Either way - something must go.

Whilst you evaluate your lounge, take a moment to re-evaluate your source of light. Are your blinds stocky, messy and tangled in loose cords? Are they letting enough light in, or is it too much or too little?

When de-cluttering your home, consider upgrading your window protection. Neat, motorised blinds offer a touch of elegance and modernity to a room, cleaning it up and de-cluttering it.

The Kitchen

Kitchen clutter normally comes in the form of unused plates or cups. How many plates and cups does one family truly need? Instead of an overflow of plates, you could put in some beautiful and light decorations - like plants, flowers or even a few cookbooks.

However, unless the plates are broken, don't throw them away. Recycle them, or put them in storage.

The Bathroom

Do you have unused soap or expired medicine and skin creams? Most of us do, and most of us keep it in our bathrooms. However, it's time to put an end to this messy practice. Evaluate what needs to be thrown away, what you will use, and whether you should give some of those endless bath bombs to a friend that will actually use them.

If you don't want to throw or give them away, then promise yourself to use the soaps, shampoos or bath products - and actually do it. Organise a relaxing night. What good are those products if they're just sitting there? It's not like they pay rent so you may as well get some good out of them!

Once you de-clutter your home, you will feel so much better - both mentally and physically. If you are interested in removing clunky blinds or messy cords from your home, or simply looking to upgrade, contact your local Somfy Expert retailer today.
