Follow our checklist to give your home a thorough spring cleaning, leaving you well-prepared to enjoy the warmer weather. Spring Clean Spring cleaning is about more than just updating your wardrobe. Here are some tips to clean your home and get it refreshed for spring! Re-Organise Wardrobe The obvious first step in spring cleaning is to clear out your closet. Pack away the long coats and thick jumpers and bring out the short sleeves and dresses! If you didn't wear any items of your winter clothing over the last few months, it might be a sign that you no longer need it. Don't hold on to clothes you no longer wear, donate any items that are still in good condition and throw away the rest. Remove Clutter Much like your wardrobe, it's time to look around your home and remove any items you no longer use and are taking up space. Decluttering your home will also clear out your mind and help you wake up in a positive mood every morning! Clean Out Your Fridge and Pantry While you are spring cleaning your home, it is the perfect opportunity to also reorganise your fridge and pantry, making sure to remove any expired items. This will make it easier for you to find things when cooking and ensure you have nothing but fresh ingredients on hand! Deep Clean Your Home Take spring cleaning a step further and give every nook and cranny of your home a deep clean. Natural light makes it easier to see stains on walls and floors so give them a good scrub to freshen them up. Clean under appliances, dust all surfaces and clean showerheads and taps for a squeaky clean home. Change Decor It's time to update your furnishings and decor to rejuvenate your home for spring. Something as simple as changing the colour scheme of your decor by updating pillows on the couch or even adding more flowers and greenery to your interior can do wonders for your home's mood. Re-arrange Furniture A cheap way to decorate and have a room feeling new is to re-arrange your furniture. Change the focal point of the room and face furniture towards the windows to enjoy the longer hours of daylight during spring! Replace Your Bedding Now that the weather is getting warmer, it's time to remove the flannelette sheets and heavy blankets and replace with lighter fabrics and brighter colours. Peel Off the Layers Similarly, it's time to wash and pack away the fluffy throws and blankets from the couch. Removing rugs and keeping the floor bare for the warmer months may also keep your home cooler. Prep the Outdoors The warmer months are made for entertaining outdoors but if your outdoor area has been neglected over winter, now is the time to prepare it for guests. Clean Outdoor Furniture Give your outdoor furniture sets a clean and remove any cobwebs. Consider your shading options – a motorised awning or pergola is perfect for protecting your visitors or furniture from the harsh Australian sun. Alternatively, external motorised blinds might be the right option for you, transforming your outdoor area into a room when closed. Change Outdoor Lighting Take the time to clean light fittings and change any broken light bulbs to prepare for the long summer nights of entertaining outdoors. For added convenience, fit your lights with an RTS enabled receiver, allowing you to control them via remote, your mobile device or even set to a timer! Groom Your Garden Prepare your garden for the glorious spring season by pruning dead branches and trimming overgrown hedges. Plant flowers to spruce up your flowerbeds and plant vegetables and herbs in planter boxes to make the most of spring! While you're outside, remove any debris which may have built up in your gutter during winter. Let the Light In! The days are getting longer and it is time to take advantage of the glorious spring sunshine! Clean your windows inside and out and open your window coverings to let the light in. This season can still get a little chilly so it's a good idea to motorise your window coverings to open during the day and let the sunshine and warmth in, and close before the sun goes down to keep the heat in at night. Somfy's Thermosunis Indoor Wirefree temperature sensor can also automatically lower or raise your window coverings depending on the intensity of the sunshine or temperature! Safety Checks As daylight savings begins again during spring, it is recommended to check your smoke alarm and change the batteries. The warmer months also mean your air conditioning will be used more so it is a good idea to clean and replace any vents or filters. If your air conditioning needs to be serviced, it will be cheaper and quicker to get it done now as opposed to the middle of summer. If you're interested in motorised window coverings for your home, RTS lighting or shading for your outdoor area, contact your local Somfy Expert Retailer now and get your home ready for the warmer seasons!
